Useful info and telephone numbers for prepayment meters
If you have a prepayment meter and it displays the following
Battery Failed
Call Help
Off
Gas Off
or has a totally blank screen then you need to contact your gas supplier for them to arrange for a metering engineer to deal with it.
Card Not Accepted
Lost or Broken cards
There should be a number of the back of your card for the supplier if not check your yearly statement for it or go to Yell.com and type utilities in the first box and it will give you a list of suppliers.
Not all companies have dedicated 24 hr contact numbers for such problems which can be very fraustrating for those of you having problems outside of their office hours so find out NOW from them what you should do if you have a meter fault when their offices are not open or you could find yourself off gas for over 24 hours. It is your gas suppliers responsibilty to deal with this calling the gas emergency service will not help you as it does not deal with meter faullts.
Here are the 24 hours numbers that I know of - I am sure some folk here may know more to add to this list.
British Gas - 0800 0480 303
Eon - 0845 301 5955
EDF - 0800 096 7359
Southern Electric - 0845 7444555
Scottish Power have a contact number on their recorded message for their metering contractors so you will need to listen to the end of the message to get that.
If there is no number on the card and you do not know who your gas supplier is call 0870 608 1524 to find out.
