I have two-tiered bamboo steamer, which sits up on top of a cupboard when not in use.
I've just taken it down to use today, and,to my horror,it has a thickish layer of wispy, dry mold covering both sections and a bit of the lid.:eek:Obviously I haven't let it dry out completely after the last use. This has happened before once, not a lot of mold the first time ,so I washed it with hot, soapy water.
I plan to wash it again the same way and maybe soak it in a mixture of water and bleach, before letting it dry completely.
Do you think that this is a wise thing to do,or should I just bin it?
Thanks, hoping someone can advise,I don't want to take any risks with mold!I suppose there might be some spores that remain in the bamboo anyway.

Hi, I wouldnt use bleach on it, as it may taint any food that you cook in future. I would tend to use a small nailbrush with the hot soapy water, with a couple of spoonfuls of vinegar Vinegar is great for removing any mould, mildew etc.
hope that helps,

instead of bleach would something like milton be better ?
i would try and wash it first, you can always then see how it comes up when dryDebt free

After scrubbing, surely boiling for 10-15 mins should kill any spores?
It works for sterilizing jam jars.Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.
