  • I think the only accounts he will be able to keep when he goes BR is the Co-op cashminder or Barclays basic account, so Think banking would be no good. Also it's unlikely he will be allowed a savings account with any amount in it as the OR will want the money as it will bed classed as assets and should go towards paying creditors.

The Co-op offers online banking whereas Barclays don't with this type of account. Cash can only be paid in in branch at the co-op but cheques can be paid through the post office but take a little longer to go through.

I've been with the co-op since 2008 just before we went BR and i think they are great.

You can phone them and apply on line or you have to go into a branch if you want to apply for a Barclays account.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks for reply but i did look at co-op but wondered if they saw cheques coming in the would class it as being used as a business account and close it down .

It depends on the amounts going through the account - I asked that question in branch & on the phone as I'm se and was assured it was Ok as it's effectively my income - if you're unsure it might be worth you going in branch/calling up - guess it depends on his business mines low income & few q's

I can put cash and q's in at my local post office, cash shows up the same day, q's take a couple of days to get to branch (from po) so always show as deposited that bit later.

  • I have the co op cashminder and so far its been no problem. you can pay in cash and cheques at the post office. It can be a bit slow to update so you have to keep a check on your balance. I use a notebook to note down what I spend and keep a running total and the double check with telephone.
  • Wouldnt touch think banking to be honest...its one of the managed accounts & charges a monthly fee as well as other "hidden" charges

the co-op should be ok as long as the cheques in & out are not too excessive a fair few peeps here have used this as a business account option without any problems

If you deposit cash in at the PO it updates virtually straight away, cheques has already been said takes 2 to 3 working days. Debit card transactions take exactly 2 working days to show up on your account.

Yeah - just take you're card & cash in & they do it over the counter straight away, don't need the envelopes like for cheques & I'm sure it was credited when I checked my account when I got home later that day - but don't quote me on the last part.
