Want to dump it - can I?

Options
I'm contracted to Orange for about another year. I pay a standard £25 before anything else but my bills are really expensive (£50) at the mo and I really want a PAYG. Anyone any ideas what I can do?

Also how much is a PAYG?

You could always try phoning them and explaining that you are having financial difficulties, could you terminate your contract and swap it to a PAYG.

don't ask, don't get - I'd give it a go ! Lay it on thick about problems, they won't want a bad debt :D
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • T-Mobile would only let me buy myself out of the rest of the contract. They multiplied the rest of the months left by my monthly payment - couldn't see the point really!! So i'm waiting until January when I can swap to PAYG.
  • I'm gonna phone them tomorrow and find out my options. I grudge paying them the £25 when with PAYG it would probably cost about a tenner!

I was with Orange till March this year. I had been with them for 20 months [initial 1 year contract, and then I had somehow signed myself up to another year's contract by buying – not upgrading – a new phone with them]. They refused point blank to let me out of the contract even though it only had another 4 months or so to run.

The best you can hope for with Orange is that they allow you to go onto their lowest tarriff – which is what I had to settle for. Be warned though, this comes with no inclusive texts which meant that having downgraded the monthly contract to save myself a few pounds, I then spent almost as much on the non-inclusive texts!

And as soon as the contract ended, I ditched Orange in favour of O2...
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.
  • Thanks for that Briona. I'll phone them and chance my luck anyway. What if I just cancelled the d/d? Sneeky! My credit file is in tatters anyway!

  • Best thing to do is ask to be placed on the lowest possible tariff and then ask for a pro forma to pay off the contract. (12 x approx £13 = £156)

You can then arrange for your mobile number to be ported to be used as PAYG.

This WILL be my debt free year! :T
  • ok this is something i know a little about.

Orange will not let you term early... Know this sounds harsh BUT its the way it is
They can offer temp disconect for up to 6 months but this sounds little help as it will only put the account on hold for up to 6 month
lowest orange talkplan is £19 a month but you will be unable to change to talkplan untill 9 months in contract
Honeybee Orange will only let you go to payg with same number or port out if you pay the contract charges in advance.
if you term the contract and then pay off pro forma by the time you pay it off the number will be lost
plus for the account to be ported to anything it has to be a active account.
  • Hi there,

I can tell you they definatly will not let you out of your contract.
You can only get out by paying the line rental for the whole term of contract.

I don't like them much as they done this with me, i switched to lowest tariff and didn't use the phone, (that was pre-lightbulb as i went with o2)

Try your luck but just be warned
