Ex Pat mortgages?

My brother and I would like to buy a property together in Scotland which I would live in. He lives abroad and we've been told both by his bank and a mortgage advisor that we couldn't get a joint mortgage because of that and it would have to be in my name only. I would much rather it were in his name only as I don't have a great credit history and my salary is a fraction of his. A friend mentioned ex pat mortgages. Does anyone know if these exist and if my brother could get one secured on a property in Scotland whilst living abroad?

Yes he can get a mortgage.

All depends on the actual scenario and deposit, but it can be done.
