Pension help please

Hi not sure if you can help, but i would like some advice re pensions. I work for the NHS as a nurse and use to pay into a pension with them. But 2 years ago i opted out of it and stopped paying it (only been in it a year) due to money problems.

Anyway i would now like to start paying back into it but dont know how to go about it or how to do it or if i am allowed to.

Hi Emma

The NHS pension scheme is one of the best around, and if you can now afford it, you should certainly opt back in. IIRC for every 6% you put in the NHS adds another 6%, so you could say you're throwing away a 6% pay-rise by not being in it!

Talk to your Salaries and Wages department. It may be possible for you to 'buy back' the 2 years that you were out of it. Just ask!
