  • With regard to switching your account I'm pretty sure Santander is not the only bank offering a free overdraft. You claim it is a hassle but yet you've been with the same bank since you were 15/ 16 so how do you know it is a hassle?!! Switching bank accounts is incredibly easy and the banks tend to do it all for you including moving your direct debits, so apart from applying you really don't have to do anything which if it saves you money I think is a good deal!

i've found this account from santander..

    Why choose this account?
As well as enjoying 0% EAR (typical) overdraft for the first 12 months and a very competitive rate after 12 months of just 12.9% EAR typical (variable), you will also have:

Access to your account 24 hours a day with our internet and phone banking service.
Access to over 1,300 Santander branches.
An exclusive offer for your child – once you have opened your new account, if you have a child between the ages 11 and 18 why not open them an account too? With our Youth Plus Account they will receive a preferential rate of interest of 5.00% AER/4.89% gross (variable) on balances up to £500

So if you want to benefit from these great overdraft rates, remember to make sure you select and complete the Account Transfer Service section in your application form

Do not move your account to Santander.
They are getting a lot of bad press at the mo.

I don't know what the apr however the interest is £9.43 a month on the credit card..

    On my o/d i get charged £25 a month 0% APR till £1,000 if i go over that i pay £25

To travel to and from work its £5 a week i get white coffee in the morning from mcdonalds for £1.19 so thats 5.95 a week and £23.80 a month :o

I should really cut down on that..

    £35.00 mobile bill
    £80.00 rent
    £23.80 Coffee from mcdonalds

So thats £414.20 remaining to pay my credit card and overdraft...

There is a way to save on the coffee, a way i'm amazed nobody else has spotted.

On eBay you can buy the loyalty voucher cards completed with 6 stickers. There are lots of people on there selling them in bulk (McDonalds workers, I would assume).

Anyway, I am currently bidding on 75 completed vouchers. My max. bid will be around £45-50.

    Let's work it out;
    If you purchased 75 cups at £1.49 = £111.75.

If I end up adding the 30p for every cup that would add a further £22.50. So if I ended up winning the 75 vouchers for £50 i'd be saving £61.75!

Even if I made each cup a large, i'd still be saving £39.25! _party_

    Are you having us on?
Well get yourself a vacuum flask and some half decent supermarket coffee and make your own at home to take out with you. Are you using the coffee thing as a social opportunity?
Seriously examine what you use the Mobile phone for, I never had a mobile when I was a student. I regard them as a superb tool for when you get stranded but not much else. Just Pay as you go and let your mates call you for a while.
Maybe you've become accustomed to buying better quality things, you'll just need to bite the bullet and go basic for a while, that can save you loads.
Have you any vices? Smoking, Boozing, Clubbing?
