Removing dried on paint, and it works!!!

Options
I had a cotton trackie-type zip up top, really nice quality, (NEXT) a sort of 'mod' looking thing, red white and blue.

It somehow got white paint on it don't know what sort, gloss or emulsion? and I thought this would be the end of it, i'd tried turps, paintbrush restorer, white spirit, none worked.

I just left it for about a year in a corner thinking what could I try next, one of those jobs you're gonna do...gonna do....and then i read in a magazine how to get dried paint off, as follows...

You need some fabric conditioner and a green scourer scratchy thingy. Just dip the scourer into the fabric conditioner and rub over where the paint is and off it comes...I can't believe it!! It worked so easy. So now its in the washer ready for washing then to wear looking like new! Hoorah!

    Excellent tip. Thanks for sharing.

Now where did I put all those clothes that I really should not have been painting in in the first place!??
  • That sounds really good! I've a couple of items that could use this treatment - never seem to remember to change out of my *good* clothes into old stuff when I'm painting  Is it one of those plasticy scourers which you use for doing the washing up?

Hi there squishy, yes it is one of those scourers that you do the washing up with, cheap in wilko! I used one that was just green scourer like a square dishcloth size one, not the scourer with sponge on the back, but i suppose you could try either.
  • works brilliantly you are a star for posting this thank you.
I brought a beautiful pair of really good quality lined floor length curtains at a car boot earlier this year (along with a shorter pair) 7 quid for both. bargain but was really disappointed when i got home and found a big paint mark on one of the long ones! i hung the short ones and was going to cut the others up for cushions and a pelmet but handnt got round to it. I've just tried your tip and its worked beautifully, the paints out and the curtains are now in the washing machine hopefully will get them dry ironed and hung tommorw, i can now use the shorter ones for cushions and pelmets so a lot less waste and i get the curtains i wanted. (The short ones did look a bit daft against the door)

Thanks for this tip! I've got paint on our quilt cover about 2 years back..will have to see if that will come out ;)

As for getting it on clothes, the first thing I do before I start painting (and I mean before I even move furniture etc) is to put on my "decorating clothes" AKA paint covered jeans and sleeveless top - then I even feel ready to paint, whereas if I'm in my normal get up then I don't :rotfl: Even OH, who doesn't do much painting, has decorating clothes ;)

    Great tip.

I'm off to try it on our curtains.

I too have decorating clothes - though I have heard one theory that you get a better finish if you wear clothes you care about! Apparently you take more care doing the painting 'cause you don't want to splash! Haven't dared try it myself. I am not the neatest person at the best of times and I am always in too much of a hurry to get to the finish.

Painting the dining room soon - I must dig out the old clothes

    thanks again for the tip
