I have 2 children under school age and work 4 days a week.
We are lucky, due to my husband working weekends he gets 2 days off to look after the kids meaning we only have to pay childcare 2 days. I get childcare vouchers through my work which saves a bit. We don't qualify for tax credits.
We use a childminder rather than nursery which should work out OK when boys go to school as she will be able to do the pick up from school/have them in the hols etc.0 -
You say your daughter is too young for a breakfast/after school club but how about a child minder?MSE aim: more thanks than posts :j0

That's one way of looking at it: another is to look at the childcare as part of your TOTAL family income, rather than just as coming out of your income. Also as long as you're working, it's easier to get another job: once you're not working it seems to be harder. Also if i end up with a min wage job its hardly worth paying for childcare?
Some employers will (or used to!) offer term time / school hours only contracts, but maybe only to staff who worked there before maternity leave. Banks, building societies, call centres, civil service etc.Signature removed for peace of mind0
