Basic/cheap lego set (merged threads)

I cannot seem to find just Lego pieces anymore? They are all kits that make specific things such as planes, trains, automobiles,nuclear power plants :rotfl:
Anyone any ideas where I can just buy various size bricks in tubs?

Oh noooo!

I know Woolworths have SMALL mega blocks for the same price, comes in see through container, not quite as good maybe but the pieces are the same size as Lego. Look Here.

I'm fairly certain the Lego shop in Milton Keynes (near Debenhams in the extended bit) have basic sets.

i want to buy some lego for my son for christmas either bricks or sets but i dont want to have to pay loads out, i have tried the argos sale but cant find any in stock as usual

just wondered if anyone had any ideas

can you get Argos to tell you when they more in stock? or maybe see if its in stock near a relative/friends house and tie in a visit to them with a trip to argos? or to legoland shop?

I've got a large box of basic stuff from toys r us, you could always try freecycle as well.
