Thanks for that. I've been trying to keep the ideas coming since the start of term as mine used to have a school dinner a couple of times a week but now they won't so it is hard to keep it interesting for them.

    I must make some scones.

    Today mine have:
Cheese and salad in a wholemeal pitta
    Homegrown carrot (sticks)
    HM cookie
Rice pudding (from an Ambrosia tin - 33p in Somerfield's this week)
    Mandarin orange

I'd bust a blood vessel trying to remember the week but will keep note for next week. Maybe it would be good to share them regularly.

    Today mine have:

HM brown bread and bierwurst sandwiches (german sausage meat selection BOGOF in Sainsburys)
a Muller light yoghurt (6 for a £1 in Asda)
    handful of grapes

and an apple for morning break
Here I go again on my own....
  • If this helps - bear in mind my kids only get 10 mins to eat - so I don't give too much:

Mon: Rice salad with chicken and cucumber
    Cold spare ribs
    Prawn crackers
    Apple
    (leftovers from Chinese on Sun)

Tues: Tuna and sweetcorn sandwich on wholemeal
    Yoghurt with strawberry/ honey
    Tangerine

    Weds:Cheese salad sandwich on rye
    Sunflower seeds
    Tangerine

Thurs: Pasta salad - Pasta, Marie rose sauce, cucumber, grated cheese, pine nuts on bed of lettuce
    HM gingerbread man
    Apple

Fri: Jacket potato with grated cheese (in flask)
    HM gingerbread man
    Tangerine

I used the oven timer set last night so the potatoes were ready at 8am.
I usually work on one main thing, one side and some fruit/veg. They drink either weak squash or milk - sometimes hot chocolate in a flask.

PS we're eating up the gingerbread men leftover from Beavers and Squirrels this week

Wow, a jacket potato, what a great idea, mine love those.

Can I ask what sort of flasks you have? I've had a hard time finding a good flask that's compact enough for them to take to school. I tried the cheap ones and their soup was cold by lunchtime. False economy I know :(

  • Yes, I bought some cheap ones as well which were useless. In the end I bought Thermos brand stainless steel wide necked ones from Argos at £9.99 each - expensive outlay but they do keep stuff really hot. I preheat them with boiling water as well inside. TBH the jacket potatoes are a first attempt today - will report back - but the flasks keep pasta and sauce, chilli, beans etc hot so they should work.

  • I got my daughter a smallish Thermos flask from Woolworths, it was £5 i think. Its not small enough to go in her lunchbox but it's one of the smallest I could find. I also looked at camping shops which had them. hth
  • I also have small thin stainless steel ones from Tesco (£4) which are fine for soup and fit better, but the wide necked ones are better for pasta or potatoes - but they are a pain to fit in

Thanks for that. I'm going to have to invest a few quid for the quality. Will look out for the Thermos make and will check out Woolies and Tesco when I go in. They didn't seem to have your flasks in the online Argos, unless they have gone up to £12.99.
