Love the sewing box Nicnax! They are so fun and easy to re upholster!

When I've stripped the fabric from the inside each of the four sides and the bottom were all a seperate piece of board which had been covered in fabric and held in place with a panel pin. And it looked like they'd been padded with cotton wool.

I did one on my blog and used polyester wadding which must give a smoother finish than cotton wool.

I made some chalk paint and painted a picture frame. It was wood (I think) but covered in that sort of plasticy white paint. I took the glass out of it and painted the back with blackboard paint. I made my chalk paint by mixing a tester pot of Dulux emulsion, some warm water and some powdered interior filler in a jam jar and I just shook it up. I gave it three coats and then put a matt varnish over it since I am putting it in the kitchen.

I've no idea if it came out like it was supposed to but I like it and I have a rake load of other stuff that are going to get the treatment! I think that it probably key - it doesn't really matter what everyone else thinks - as long as you like it.

I can't seem to comment on your blog.
I haven't posted for ages but still shabby chic-ing ...lol. Doing more sewing than painting these days. I'd like to try chalk painting next.

any opinions on these would be great.
i didnt want too spend this much on the initial attempt but the small tins work out so much dearer and the primer will always have a use.
if im too make a real go at this i think as stated, chalk seems to be the way.
the nearest i can get annie sloans is about 30 miles away and £7.50 p+p is a bit steep (no stockists in norfolk)
so i might look into the plaster of paris method in a bit more detail.

I asked on Freecycle for part used tins of emulsion paint and managed to get about 5L of Dulux emulsion in various neutral shades, so that might be worth a try if you don't want to splash out too much cash while you are getting the hang of the painting.
