Cabot chasing debt from Barclaycard from years ago

Hi

Need some help with this please. Have had several letters from different companies about a debt (Ruthbridge, Mackenzie Hall) and now Cabot Financial. My reply to all these companies was the CCA request letter with the £1 cheque. I heard nothing from Ruthbridge or MAckenzie Hall but Cabot acknowledged this and have sent through some paperwork.
They have sent through:
A pre-approved application - can't read all of it and I believe the date is wrong as it says 1999 but I know I had the credit card long before that
Some terms and conditions which look like copies from a recent date and have XXX's where it should state rates and charges etc
Some paper with lots of dates and numbers on it that doesn't really make much sense - I presume this is the statement they are supposed to provide

I did have a credit card with Barclaycard which was paid off in full in 2004. I don't have anything to prove that though. I just need some help with what to do now??
This debt does not appear on my credit file either so does that mean it is not true?

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Pete.

    Hi

How many years ago. Any debt which you have not acknowledged or paid towards in 6 years is statute barred and payment is purely voluntary.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Do I just send the letter for Statute Barred to Cabot? I wasn't sure whether that was the right move. It must be longer than 6 years if not on my credit file? I think I paid it off in Dec 2004 so it should be on there still shouldn't it?
