Bad Advise by DMC how do I reclaim my £500 fees ?

Hi All,
Back in may I realised my debts were getting out of control. Emotionally I couldnt cope so decided to get a DMC in ! they advised instantly that an IVA would be appropriate this advise was given without taking my husbands income into account. At no time did they recommend a DMP. I paid them over £500 in fees and it was from then i accummalated arrears and charges. Before this I had never defaulted on a payment. At the time was greatful for some help .Now 4 months later I have mega charges paid them mega money and they only paid £5 pm to my creditors. This company then passed me on to an IVA company who also wanted fees !!What a rip off now I realise. I have cancelled their s/o and sacked them . I am in the process of writting a letter to the DMC stating that I feel they have ill advised myself not requiring a full financial picture knowing that we would be turned down for an IVA as we earn too much. The debts could have been paid with some cut backs etc and demanding some form of refund. Im scared to send the letter as they might feel i have broken my contract with them, and claim the other 2 payments of £281, but strongly feel they were only after my money which I never had to waste in the first place ! what do you think apart from being a silly moo !

  • A lot of fee paying companies "sell" IVA's falsely, and you are not the first to be fooled by them so don't worry. I can't advise you on what to do about the letter but what I can advise you is to choose a non charging DMP company like CCCS, Payplan, or Christians Against Poverty. Hope all gets sorted for you!
There is a light at the end of the tunnel.....I just need to find the switch.
