Discharged, but declined for Barclays Cash Card

Just been to my local Barcays branch. I had applied by post for Barclays Cash Card account but the person in the branch had not correctly certified copies of my passport and driving licence (she forgot to sign them), so Barclays returned the application to me. Went to the branch today, they put the application through on their computer system (which is apparently how it should be done in the first place!), but was declined (reason given was 'Policy Rule'.).
I have not previously had a bank account with Barclays, and the woman in the branch said she did not understand why I was declined, but she attempted an 'appeal' online, giving my BR details (I was AD in March this year). I am waiting to hear from her regarding the 'appeal'.
Does anyone else have experience of this? The nearest Coop bank to me is 5 miles away (no car), so I would like to use Barclays.

I was declined initially on the computer, but the personal banker said that this was normal and she would have to put it through manually, took about 3 days before she rang me back to say I had been accepted. By the way my nearest Coop is over 10 miles away, but I just use the PO to put any money/cheques in and do the rest on line. I only use my Barclays account as a back up.:pB&SC No. 298

It's normal for the Barclays system to decline you for a cash card a/c when you are BR. The PB will appeal the desicion and contact you (it may take up to 5 days depending on how efficient they are). You will get a card & telephone banking but you won't get online banking till you are discharged.
I agree with dojoman - use the Post Office! I bank with the Co-op too. I use our mobile post office (three times a week at the village hall
), to withdraw, pay in cash, pay bills and the Co-op/Post Office envelopes to pay in cheques (they take a couple of extra days to clear but, hey it works). LBM:FEB 2008

Co-op here too & I think they are excellent.....opened my 2 accounts fully over the phone, have full online banking & can use any post office as I would the Co-ops own branches....so much more convenient.
Visa debit has never caused me any issues either.....I just wanted no frills banking & the Co-op do exactly that with no fuss.0 -

You say you have 2 accounts, we were only allowed one, so do you have a savings account? If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -

The nearest Co-op bank is over 40 miles from me and i only saw one a few months ago after have an account with them for over 2 years now but i use the post office and with them in shops and town centres now i find that better. I also have a Barclays account but it aint all that to be honest and you have to go in the bank all the time and that for me is 25 miles away and can be a pain.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Another one with the co-op here! Our nearest branch is miles away, I use the post office to pay things in and the online banking for everything else.
Cannot fault them at all, really really good.0
