Hi Halifax rang yesterday and offered to clear approx £50000 of debt for a payment of approx £15000. If only I could raise the money ,

That is a great offer. Hfax are the most stubborn of all creditors.
Can you give an idea of the age of debt, when you defaulted etc?0 -
if its not in writing, then ignore it!, they all try this on to get you to pay SOMETHING, and then say, you have to pay more, a few weeks later...0

Aww, but at least you know they are open to lower settlements if you do manage to get some money together in the future. Although as mentioned above sometimes they will offer on the phone and when you try and get them to put it in writing in an acceptable format then suddenley they won't agree
