31k and wanting to go bankrupt

Hi all, been lurking for awhile and looking for some help.

right the situation. during my marriage my now ex wife and I were out of work for awhile and knocked up 31k of debt. most of this is in my name and she wont except any liability for any of this, she has taken one which is in the joint name for 5k.

I've been living with my head in the sand for the past 2 years and avoiding paying bills and moving from addresses. but now i really want to get my life sorted as i'lve met someone new and want a "proper" life again (without credit cards).

the things that are concerning me are:-

how can i get a credit check if i dont have any valid credit cards?

is it better to be honest and say that i'm living with my new partner or to say that she is my landlord (which techincally she is) as i pay her money to rent the second bedroom.

I have no house and no assets so i guess that bancruptcy is the best thing unless anyone has any better suggestions, I have been to see CAB who have been great but would like some other ideas on the situation.
Cheers for looking.

Do you have any joint debts left or did your ex get it put into her name (reason I'm asking is it's a little unusual for creditors to do that). Even if she is paying it but still has your name on then think would need to be mentioned if you filed for bankruptcy.
You can get a credit check by writing out to the credit reference agencies with a £2 payment (can use postal order) and asking for a copy of your records.
Am not sure who you are meaning when you say you don't want to tell them about your partner - when you file for bankruptcy?
Without knowing your circumstances it is impossible to tell whether that is the right option for you. For some people it works out and others have managed to clear bigger debts with other methods, eg dmp or iva. Try posting up an soa (link at the top of the forum) and if people have a bit more information then may be able to offer better advice.
    Good luck with it.

Probably - but unless we know more details, it's impossible to be definite
