Do i pay it???

Hey guys hope u can help!!!
I had an account with Shop Direct which i stupidly forgot about and when i tried to get it in order it was too late and the debt had been passed on.
I had received a lot of charges on the account so had sent the letters from this site and then received a statement from Shop Direct which showed my balance had gone from £350 to £180 as i had received that much charges. I was obviously happy about this and phoned to pay the balance only to be told it had been sold to Lowell Portfolio.
This is where it gets confusing, Lowell told me the balance was £352.20, when i advised them it was less i sent them a copy of the final statement from Shop direct indicating i owed £180. This was around 6 months ago.
Today i have received a letter from Lowell saying that the statement from Shop direct was sent in error due to the account being in the process of being transferred to Lowell and that i do owe £352.20 and must pay this amount asap¬!!!
Is there anything i can do? I obviously dont want to pay £350 when the good i received with interest was only £180. Am i just meant to accept them saying yes its an error and pay up????
Thanks!!

Ask for a complete break down of costs, they will have smeared your dead account with their own generous charges."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0

there will have been charges added to your account because you hadn't paid for a long time, you could try and ask for a settlement figure and see what they say?0

Write to Lowell and ask for a full breakdown of the bill to see if they have added their own charges or if this has come from Shop Direct. If the charges from Shop Direct haven't been removed as they said they would be then write back to them requesting the full charges to be refunded as per their previous communication and since you no longer have an account with their company you expect the money to be sent out to you as a cheque.
In fact then I would be rather tempted to be naughty and offer Lowell a full and final with the refund cheque

Thanks for your replies! Iv just sent a letter to Lowell asking for full breakdown. If the charges have come from shop direct do i write back to them for charges to be removed, even though they have sold this debt on and they tell me they have nothing to do with it as it now belongs to Lowell.
Thanks again!0 -
Yes you ask for the charges back from Shop Direct, since they were the ones who put them on the refund needs to come from them. I would clearly state in the letter that you expect the money to come directly to you as you no longer have an account with them and do not give them permission to pass your money onto any third party (ie Lowells). The reason being that Lowells will have bought the debt for peanuts and would look at offering them a lower full and final.0
