Housing Exec Advice

Hi. Was wondering if anyone could give me info on being transferred by Housing Exec?
I live in a village and have been separated from ex-husband for a couple of years but he still lives in the same village. I have now got a boyfriend but a few months ago he stayed over at my house and my ex caused trouble (criminal damage) and the police had to be called.
I phoned the housing exec about moving, as i feel i cannot live my life or have a new relationship with my ex so close but was told i would have to go into a hostel first. I have children and don't want to put them through that. Is there anything else that can be done?

Speak to your local Councillor/MP to see if they can help - it's part of what we elect them for.The Daily Mail

The advice you were given isn't strictly correct.
You can apply for a transfer whereby you will be moved to another house suitable to your needs in the area of your choice. However, if you are 'adequately' housed (i.e. your house is suitable for your current needs), you will likely wait some timeon the transfer list as you're nt a priority.
If you feel under threat by your ex's behaviour, you may wish to make an application under the homeless legislation. Police will obviously be able to corroborate your situation which will be in your favour in considering your case. You may be offered temporary hostel accommodation but you do not have to accept it. You may remain in your own home whilst you wait for the homeless decision to be made and until alternative accommodation is available for you, presuming your homeless application is successful. Alternatively, the Housing Executive works with private landlords in most towns to make available houses (known as 'single lets') for families in need of temporary accommodation instead of hostel accommodation. You may want to ask if there are any available in a suitable area for you if would like to get out of your current area sooner rather than later.
If you want to PM me with details of your location, I may be able to give more specific advice.0
