Different models of Kenwood Chef/Major

I am trying very hard to convince myself that I don't really need to upgrade to a Major, but the Chef that did what seemed to be huge quantities when the DSs were tiny, is striking me as a little inadequate now that they are both 6ft plus and perpetually hungry:eek:
I want to batch cook so that I can have some meals and cakes stockpiled in the freezer so that I can have some non-cooking days, when I am free to do other things. However I see several models offered for sale at various places, but when I look at Kenwood's own site I can only find the KM005. Does anyone know where I can find "official" information as to the features of these other models?

I used to have a kenwood years ago but sold it to have a food processor. I really regret that as I used the seive and colander a lot for fruit purees, for jam etc. I really want to save up for a Kenwood again and have been looking on e bay. I asked on another thread here what models people would go for and the 701 and 901 were suggested, tho they seem so expensive on e bay that I thought I might as well save and get a new one, as also not all the attachments fit both those models. So I've been looking on the Kenwood website and on John Lewises too and am TOTALLY confused. A few months ago JL sold a model no KM400 for £250, which they now seem to have stopped selling - tho other people sell it still. They currently sell a KM310 which in the shop looked to me to be not sturdy enough - knobs all wobbly, rather a plasticky feel to it.But how on earth are we meant to distinguish between the models ? There are so many of them, and it's not at all clear what the differences are. I don't care about the extra baking pans, or even the liquidiser, citrus juicer and grain mill - and all those other bits which I don't need, I just want to know which has the sturdiest mechanism, the longest guarantee and is the best value for money. Is there an expert out there who can make sense of the impenetrable jungle that is the Kenwood website ?0

Glad it isn't just me, then. We bought our Chef (which is still going well) in either Currys or Comet and could feel/touch one, but I don't know anywhere local to me that sells Majors, and I really would prefer to feel one before commiting my money. I look at the ones on eBay, but as you say the used ones go for sums that are beyond my comfort zone for eBay buying. There are new ones on there but I want to know more about them before spending £££s.0
