Firstly, thanks to those who replied to my first post.:j
We've now had a few reponses, a couple have accepted our offer of token payments, at least in the short term, a couple have asked for more information but there are still a few we haven't had any response from at all. Despite this, I've now paid the first of the offered payments.
Now, a couple of further questions someone may be able to help with. Littlewoods rejected our first offer so we wrote back, following the advice given here, also telling them to stop telephoning the house, particularly as our son works nights. We've had nothing futher from them at all but over the course of the last 5 days, they've made 25 calls to our home number. So what do I do next?
Second question - one of our debts is a loan with RBS who we currently have our bank accounts with too (although we are in the process of changing this). I wrote to them with the offer letter but have had no response. I also cancelled the direct debit but on logging in tonight, I see that the direct debit has been "reinstated" - obviously by them, without as much as a by your leave! I've cancelled it again but am concerned that they'll simply reinstate on the payment date and try to take the money - incurring us more fees, at the very least. Anyone any experience or advice?
Thanks.

Hi Jay Cee,
Even if the companies have refused the offer of token payments, keep making the token payments and don't let them bully you into paying more than you can afford. The reason for the phonecalls is to try to get you agree to pay the amount they want. Tell them you only wish to communicate in writing and send the letter below.
Good luck
Dear Sirs,
Account No: XXXXXXXX
I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing. I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls and I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only. I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine. Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company may be recorded and used in evidence and I expect this harassment to cease immediately.
Yours faithfullyIf you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Get a new bank account. Immediately. They have a legal right to steal from you, have a read of this... Setting Off Rules: DON'T bank where you’ve got
So you need a new safe account asap. For some help picking a safe account, try here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2636953I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.
