Some years ago (probably at least 20!!) I used to get packs of frozen cream from Iceland - it was in little cylindrical sticks, enough for a portion/recipe.
I had a look in Iceland the other day (not been in one of their stores in years) to see if they still did them, but no joy.
Does anyone remember them? And, the crux of the matter, are they still available anywhere? I've also looked in the freezer section in Tesco and Morrisons, but no luck.
It's just I often need a spot of cream for a recipe, but don't want to buy a carton, as we end up using the rest up on puddings, which kind of sabotages our weight loss attempts.:o

Hi lamewolf,
I haven't seen frozen cream for sale but often I have small amounts of left over whipping or double cream and it freezes very well for using in cooked dishes at a later date.
What about buying a small carton, whiip it then freeze it in portion sizes (ice cube tray?) It does have to be whipped first or it will be grainy once defrosted also single cream doesn't have a high enough fat content so won't freeze well.

Hi,
I do remember them, we used to get them in Tesco. My mum and I were talking about them just the other night when we realised we both keep cream in the fridge 'just in case' and end up throwing it out.
Sadly I haven't been able to find them either, so I will watch this thread with interest.0 -
Thanks for the tip about whipping the cream before freezing, Pink-winged. My previous attempts to save left over cream were disasterous due to not knowing this!0

Pink, you're a gem! I didn't know you could do that (or at least my poor lupie brain wouldn't have thought of it).:rotfl:
Soon as I have a spot of room in the freezer (I just filled the last few gaps today, thanks to someone - might well have been Pink:A telling me I could freeze mushrooms) I shall give that a try.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I remember them. I used to suck them straight out the freezer, like ice poles. No wonder I need to lose some weight!Val.0

Now that's what I love about this site - someone asks a question I've been wondering about and someone quickly comes up with a practical and moneysaving solution.
So, thanks Lone Wolf and Pink - no more off cream for me :T

My MIL always used to keep a pack of cream sticks in the freezer, she'd fry a steak then add a bit of wholegrain mustard to the pan and a couple of the cream sticks, instant mustard sauce for the steak.
I haven't seen them for years so I whip a carton of double cream (wait until it's on offer or reduced), open freeze spoonfuls on a tray (or you could be posh and do quenelles), then when they're frozen stick them in freezer bag or old ice-cream tub.Dum Spiro Spero0
