It's not my debt....help?!?!?

Hi all

Im not sure if I am in the correct place but I hope someone can help please?

Ive been working really hard to sort out all of my debts. I have managed to set up payment plans with all creditors and have been happily paying these for several months.

A month or so ago I got a letter from a Company called Central Debt Recovery on behalf of HSBC, addressed to my house but with someone elses name on it. One of my debts is with HSBC so I dug all of my information out and checked the account numbers, amount etc and it is definately not my debt.

I rang CDR and explained this to them, they were very apologetic and promised to remove my address from this ladies account. The next month I received another letter, so again rang them and same story.

I have just come home tonight and received ANOTHER letter from them for this OP. The letter is thanking me for the £19 payment in September, but explaining that this is not acceptable. I know this is definately not my debt as my payment plan with HSBC is not for £19.

Please can anyone advise how I get get these people to remove my address from this ladies account once and for all, as I obviously dont need any more debt coming through my door, especially one that isnt mine??

Many thanks as always

SnS
Some debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them!!! :(

  • HI ya,

If it has someone elses name on the letter just send it back not know at this address.

You've told them three times - so I'd ignore it & return it.

You wont get them to remove it, OMG do you know how much they love people like you? They have not only got you responding to someone elses debt they have got you frightened about it. Another three or four debt collection threats and you might even pay up! Ha! Oh they love people like you, they really really do. Next you'll be sending them a photocopy of your driving licence and council tax bill.

Look mate, these companies aren't people, so don't be expecting them to react like people. It is THIER responsibility to prove that the debtor in question is at the address in question. Credit files are PER PERSON not per house. They threaten things they can't ever do. And the more you bite, the more they continue. Stop that right away, and stop being scared of what wont happen. Send the letters back "return to sender, not known at this address" and calm down. They are only pestering you because you bite.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(

You could write to them (don't ring!) threatening to report them for a breach of the Data Protection Act. They have provided you with another debtors details and could be prosecuted for this. They won't write to you again!
