HSBC, let me pay my debts!

Hiya!

Tried to pay my 13K Northern rock loan off today but there was some kind of limit on my account so I couldn’t pay out more than 10k in one day...
So on the advice of Northern rock I went to my bank to get this limit lifted...
The woman in HSBS looked at me like I was dog doo, huffed and went over to a colleague, 5 mins later she comes back and tells me that there is nothing they can do unless I am willing to pay a £20 fee.. '£20 for what?' I asked - 'we can’t allow you to withdraw more than £10000 she said'. 'But why?' I said. 'Because that’s just the way it is' she said.

I didn’t have time to carry on going in circles with this person because I was on works time.
Does anyone know why on earth I would be penalised by my bank (who i've been with for 20 years) for wanting to clear some debt?

It seems totally unreasonable to me, are they suggesting that if I where a millionaire say, Robbie Williams? that I would have to budget myself to 10k a day? ...I don’t think so!

Just wanted a rant anyway!

  • It maybe turn out to be a good thing, as you may have been penalised by Northern Rock for paying it off in one short. Before you pay the remainder, check the small print on your agreement, then checked that this payment has gone through, then give them a call to see what the final settlement figure is Now, you may find that it has reduced and that you will have saved yourself some money,

    Worth a try!!

Yeah they are proper nuts arn't they.

My girlfriend was caught short of a tenna about 1 year ago & tried to take it out of the joint account in the branch but they wouldn't let her unless we both signed for it. Which is fine really when you think about the security side of it right.

So how come the same girl the very next conversation let my GF close the account take out all 500 quid and walk off with it withought even calling me! It was the only was she could get them to give her a tenna of our own money.

    very very crazy.

Shes also managed to pay for things with her signature on but using my cheque book (nothing to do with our joint account) & the money has actually gone out of my account! - we didn't realise she had my cheque book until the money started coming out of my account.

    worto.

crackers mate, i think your better off joining the under the matress savings club, the interest might be crap but at least you can do what you want with your money..
im gonna go down to my branch tomora and let them know where they can stick there account, Alliance & Leicester are looking pretty good at the moment to me :)
  • Get back to HSBC and demand it, and without paying for it. I have recently set it up where I can transfer anything up to balance of my account in one go, without charge. I had to fill in a form and take it to my local branch (not where my account is, just any branch - bring ID too, just in case). Ring HSBC on 08457 404 404 (or 01226 261 010 if you use https://www.saynoto0870.com) and ask them to send you a form out allowing you to transfer more than 10k a day. They are not very familiar with it at the branches but they will be able to do it if you insist politely.
