Am on the lookout for 'music in your ears'

Our 5 year old is mad on music and recently saw a little girl with an ipod nano and asked what it was

She is now wanting Santa to bring her 'music in her ears'

My Question is what would be the best to buy?

I was thinking that if I could source something that was

1. Easy to use
2. Could view photo's on
3. Store and play movies (possibly link into the car dvd player and screens)

Have looked at the Archos 43

anybody any experience of these and what/where is best to buy

I know it is totally off-topic here, but are you sure it is worthwhile buying a five year old such an expensive MP3 player? When mine was that age he had a fisher price radio I am currently viewing them for a present for my18 yr old lad, and from what I have seen so far, i think your looking at £125 upwards. I shall keep an eye on this thread though as I know absolutely nothing about them, and am keen to find the best deals as always.

I'd say be careful- most 5 yr olds I know are not the most agile and an MP3/4 (Video=MP4 player) could very easily be damaged and broken or have the screen cracked. I'd advise something like the ipod shuffle, they are very simple to use and affordable.

If it breaks, it wont matter too badly but a decent MP4 costing over £100 or even more (depending on having a decent amount of space, being easy to use and having good image quality and being reliable- eg Creative are not very reliable but have lower priced models, say around the £100 mark).

Maybe a video would be better given when she can handle them a bit better, is used to the complex format and wont get food trapped in the buttons! Also, it being small could be very easy to slip this into school- one scratch (being dropped, an arguement with class mates, a scramble at playtime...) and the thing could be rendered useless.

The newest ipod shuffle is around £40 and no doubt there are similar models by other brands which are far cheaper. Not so easy to damage and it plays music!

Archos 8gig mp4 player is very robust and good quality and at £79.99 is good value for money, does mp3 music mp4 video music and also has a video recorder built in.

i have been looking at the 43.....not sure if it is the same or indeed how big it is

The Archos 43 at £80 plus seems to me to be a lot of money to spend on a 5 year old. Wouldn't it be better to get something like this Ebuyer own brand MP4 player which costs under £29 including delivery?.
