Flour mites Need Storage Idea

Le Parfait do preserving jars which work really well. BEcause they are glass they are easily cleaned in a dishwasher. They come in a wide range of sizes.
As a price guide, John Lewis do a set of THREE x 1.5Litre jars for just £9.
(Lakeland do SIX x 1 Litre for £12, but I would think these would be too small for flour, although fine for pasta etc).
You can get them on Ebay, but the postage costs make them a very unbargain.
They are widely available in cookshops both on and offline.

I've stopped getting them since I started putting the flour (in the paper bag) in a locktight plastic bag once I've opened it. I don't have room for storage containers, and it seems to do the trick0

I just use an old ice cream tub. A two litre one holds a big bag (3lb??) of flour perfectly.:hello:0

Do freeze it on the day. I used to be blighted with flour mites until I started doing this. I just pop the bag directly in the freezer, leave it for a night and then take it out and pop it in the cupboard. Had no problems since I started doing this a few years ago.The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0

My mum had environmental health around once about these flour mites. They said that the mites love the glue on packaging, so if you get them in one bag of flour, they then thrive on the packaging glue on anything else in the cupboard. So now we keep everything in tupperware, no cardboard packets with gum. We have had mites in the flour since, but contained in one tupperware container that we could empty, clean and solve the problem straight away.0

i saw a flour tub today in the local charity shop- its perhaps worth a scout around those?
otherwise, i use empty dowe egberts coffee jars for storing dry goods.I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Checked out four charity shops on Tuesday. No luck. I did buy 2 containers from a £1-Land type shop, but when I'd got them home, washed them and put the lids on I was disappointed to discover I didn't get a very good seal. The lids acually wobble around and pop off if you flex the container to much. They'll do for now but only until I've had a chance to get to Ikea or Woolies.
You can afford Dowe Egberts? Must be one of your little luxuries!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -

Hehe, I do that. I absolutely love tomatos (defintely my desert island food) and make loads of tomato sauces for pasta out of Cirio brand tinned tomatos. Morrisons did a buy one get one free offer on Cirio a few months ago. This brought the price down to almost the value range level. So I picked up a whole carton of them on three or four shops. I've not had to buy tinned tomato since the start of summer and I've still got about 60 or 70 tins of them left in the cellar which should see me through to next year hopefully. Lovely jubley!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
Could I tap you for your tomato sauce recipe?0
