Whole sea bass £2 each in tesco from 15/09/10

I popped into Tesco late yesterday afternoon to pick up a couple more salmon, which was reduced by a further 25% as the promotion finished yesterday. The fishmonger told me that whole seabass would be £2 each from today.

    how big were they?
  • I checked a few minutes ago online and there were no offers for sea bass. But that is only for one tesco store.

Big. We had them last night, and they were very filling. Much bigger than the ones which were only £1.80 in Asda a couple of months ago.

I got 12 for myself and 10 for my friend and they were definitely £2 each.

Just in case you did not know, you cannot buy fresh fish from the fish counter when you place a grocery order. You can only buy pre-packed fresh fish.

Great find OP! Can anyone tell me what sea bass tastes like? I'm not a huge lover of fish and usually stick to pollock & cod. My son likes salmon.

I like fish but I wouldn't know what to do with a whole sea bass and my son won't eat a fish that still has it's head on anyway.

Sea bass is a meaty fish. I get the fishmonger to cut off the head, cut off the spikey fins and scrape off the scales. I then sprinkle lemon juice inside and out, also a bit of oil to stop the skin sticking to the rack and then grill either side for about 6-8 minutes, depending upon the size.

Watford had 60 boxes (4 in each) yesterday and the same again today. There were loads of signs at the fish counter advertising the seabass at half-price. I bought some more today to put in the freezer.

None at our Tesco but was advised the offer runs until 28/09, because of the price they sell quickly

I ring through to the store first thing in the morning and speak to the SA on the fish counter and ask them to prepare the fish for me and put them in the fridge. I did this on both occasions in the week and I normally do this when salmon is on offer.
