I would definitely go for a memory foam one. It was the best thing I bought in years! There is no need to pay a fortune either (for example Tempur) you can get a really good deal on Ebay, I think think they were sent from Germany... I am sure if you do a search on MSE you will find several posts from people that have bought over the internet. Good luck;)When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0

Is it possible for your father to try them out at a shop? Not everyone likes foam - it tends to be warm and some people get freaked out by the sinking feeling. I like it, but my husband cannot stand it.
There is also latex, which has some of the pressure-point benefits, without being so warm or sink-y.:beer:0 -
Having got 7 years experience of selling mattress', I'd definatley not go for the orthopedic mattress. All this word means is "very firm". There is no such thing as an orthoopedic mattress, and it certainly won't help your dad, especially if he's only of a slight build? I get very passionate about people getting the right mattress for them and it is very difficult to advise over e-mail. for obvious reasons I guess it would be diffficult to take your father to a shop and try it. please don't rush into anything without expert advice as what is good for some poeple ("memory foam is the best thing I ever bought"), may not be good for others. E.g. your dad may find it hard to get out of bed with a foam mattress that has moulded around his body shape...it's great for support, but may leave him feeling like he's climbing out of a hole! you are welcome to send me a PM, as I can give good honest advice and you'd also be surpised at the quality v price of a certain shop!. Or you can let me know things like your dads weght, build, what type of mattress he sleeps on now (spring, foam, hard, soft), what budget you have etc. I'd be happy to advise through this site. Depending on how fragile your dad is, always remember that your body takes up to 48 days to adjust to a new mattress, so changing from spring to foam for example could be bad for him. I hope this helps you decide what to do..
Good luck!i'm living in a parallel universe0 -

I can really recommend these matresses from the futon company.... http://www.futoncompany.co.uk/en/1/deepsleep.mxs
I have never had a matress like it before, and they are absolutely brilliant. It's all down to personal choice really in the end, but these are very very good.

I've got an ikea foam mattress - not memory foam but a fairly firm foam one. Very comfy but, as one poster said - very warm!! Much warmer than a usual mattress. Just wish someone had warned me as I bought it at the start of summer!!!
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
i have this one: http://www.mattressman.co.uk/mattress/Double/Posturepedic_-_Memory_Support_mattress.aspx
its spring under memory foam (60mm)

hi guys, thanks for the help last time
argos has above bed for £374, was £749.99
link is h**p://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6655284.htm
says flexifoam memory, wondering if this is like memory foam with springs under neath, not too familair with beds, any advise0 -
As your dad is 92 years old and if you are replacing the mattress due to wear, I would get him a similar one to the one he had before. If he has had it a long time he will be used to it and probably won`t want to experiment with a different kind.0
