Can't find google, ebay etc. The ISP or me?

I've been getting a problem recently of being connected to my ISP ( dial up) and then when going back to my home page ( Google) I get a boxed screen message advising me that google cannot be found, please check your spelling etc etc.

I then get the same message for ALL the web sites I try, Ebay, MSE etc. The addresses are all spelt correctly, being in my bookmarks and also connect at other times with no problem.

Please tell me:-

Have I fault in my own computer or is it the ISP's computer having a problem? I seem to remain connected but cannot access any sites.

Info appreciated

Does going to that page work? If so its a DNS problem and it will be the ISP's DNS Server thats screwed but you can use others....

If not, are you behind a router? Sometimes that can interfere heavily.. specially belkin ones.

  • I have been having this as well, I think it is a DNS problem cos I tried doing everything, it eventually rights its self after a while.

I am with tiscali if that helps.

Yesterday I couldn't access anything on the internet with my computer. I have a Netgear router connected. Tesco are my ISP, and during my phone call to them they said it would be a problem with the router. I un-plugged it as they told me, reconnected it after 30 seconds, but still nothing.
I had the same messages come up as Happy-saver.
I'm not a Computer-Whizz, and had to turn off the computer before I lost my rag completely. This morning I've turned it on and it's working okay.
    I don't understand it.
Do you lot think it was a problem on the side of the ISP, or my router?
    Thanks.

Thanks for that - I was geting worried it was me. As you say it eventually rights itself.

I'm with Naims and it seems they might be changing stuff around at the moment.

  • I'm having the same problem with Fast4 dial up at the moment. Connects to the ISP fine but wont load any websites. Redial and it may be okay - or not.
    Moving away from them soon.
