Leeds charity shops?

Hi All,
I'm having a weekend in Leeds this weekend, with a friend but they're getting there about 5 hours after me, so I thought i'd have a mooch round the charity shops, as I've lost a lot of weight, and desperately need some new clothes on a budget.
Does anyone know if there is an area of Leeds that has quite a few in - just I've never been there before, and don't want to spend all day wandering around and not finding any!
Any help - road names, whatever - would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Minnie x

Hi Minnie
If you are in the centre of Leeds then they are a little bit spread out but all within walking distance of each other. There is a big Oxfam near the Corn Exchange and around the corner from there is PDSA. You can also go to The Headrow which is about 10 mins (slow walk) from where Oxfam is and there are a lot (Scope, British Heart foundation amongst others) on there stretching all the way down from where Muji is towards the bus station/Playhouse.
Hope that helps and happy bargain hunting! :T0 -
You might have a better choice venturing up to Headingley for charity shops. It's the city's biggest student district so there are plenty of potential doners and shoppers. There's certainly a big Oxfam on Otley Road, opposite The Box, and I think there are a couple heading down Kirkstall Lane towards the cricket ground.
Dead easy to get there from the city centre. Pretty much any bus going past the University will go through Headingley.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Nothing useful to add, because I don't know Leeds at all, but just wanted to say "A woman after my own heart!" :rotfl: It would be exactly what I'd be planning!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks ever so much - that's so helpful! I've printed out a route from google maps, and am really looking foward to having a shop! I'm staying at the city centre Ibis, so probably won't go to the ones towards the university - not this time anyway. I have to get through a 3 hour train journey to get to Leeds, so would prefer walkable ones to stretch my legs!
Thanks loads for your help :beer:Total Debt January 2014 £10,725.44

There's a PDSA behind House of Fraser. HoF is on Briggate (the main shopping street) if you cut through HoF and come out the doors at the back it should be just opposite.
If you're feeling creative when you come out of the back of HoF turn right and there is a really good haberdashery shop called Samuel Taylor.
After Samuel Taylor take the little street towards the market (Sam Taylors is on a corner so you wanna walk down the street that the entrance is on). If you turn left at the end there is a RSPCA and British Heart foundation or if you turn right that takes you round the corner to the Oxfam mentioned by lingolady21. After you've been there if you carry on going a couple of hundred yards down the main road (Duncan St) you will find you are back at Briggate again (on your right)
If you Google Map 'Central Road, Leeds' the above should make much more sense then you can see what you're looking for. Also if you put in walking directions from the Ibis to Central Road it's dead straightforward.
Happy hunting!0 -
There are loads of decent chairty shops in Leeds - the above posts cover it I think. Oxfam is particularly good and try a geobar if you go - the best cereal bars ever0

Primark is on the headrow with all the Charity shops across the road,
They are just about as cheap as the charity shops anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I second the Headingly suggestion - it's great for chazzers! Morley is definitely worth checking out, about 6-7 shops on Queen street, including the Wakefield Hospice shop which rocks, and a couple round the corner on Albion Street. Congrats on the weight loss BTW!0
