Have you looked in Ikea?
Their kitchen storage range is fantastic - only trouble is you see so many lovely things that are such good value you end up spending much too much. Not that I'm speaking from personal experience of course.;)0 -

I've had flour mites, so we've been discussing this very subject here:

I bought a couple of nice glass jars with Grolsch lids today in my market, they look just like the Ikea one's, £2.50 each.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
I was in a similar position regarding an outdated kitchen eg. all 70's pine with blue and white tiles with tea cups on them. I pained cupboards and walls and mosaiced over the old tiles. I used 4 colours of the same brand of tiles, so they had the same tone, but were different colours, bashed them with a hammer and stuck them on with tile adehsive and then grouted with terracotta grout for a Mediterranean look. They have been up about a year and I still love them.
This job did take quite some time to finish and was a bit messy in the meantime but well woth the effort.
Thank you to MSE contributers who are a great help to keep me motivated to take care with my spending.0 -

Kitchens in a bit of a mess... Errmmm suppose I could move the mess to one side, get a snap, then move it to the other side and get a snap there...SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Right, here it is. This is the entrence to the kitchen. As you can see its in a corner off the hall. I wanted to move it left a bit. This would have meant we could have extended the lounge into the hall, and extended the counter all the way down to where the door currently is. Another problem is the oven. As you can see its head height and wasting valuable counter space. When I have the money we'll get a cooker put in that has the oven integrated underneath the hob. Means bending down, but thats not a problem.
Next we have the side of the kitchen on the outside wall of the house. As you can see we have a little bit of space just wide enough for the microwave. Then the cooker and a little bit more space where we have the kettle for making the tea. Followed by the sink.
Then after the sink we have another small area where we tend to put dirty pots and pans prior to them getting washed up. Then theres a small alcove bit where we put our glasses and cook books ect (which are above out of shot).
On the other side of the kitchen is the only useful work surface available. But it doesn't take long for this to get filled up. It doesn't help matters that we have a toaster, knife rack, deep fat fryer and brita filter permanently stationed here. Once I start cooking and get a chopping board on there theres practically no space left. I hate cooking in this kitchen as its always a lot of work jugling things round to try and get a useable area.
And finally heres a video, which if you can download might make it easier to see how the kitchen is organised. I dont appear to be able to download it from Firefox though. Any ideas on how to make the most of the space, and secondly how we could decorate it. The current layout is how the last owners had it. I think its vile myself.
