I have been trying to get out of my credit cards for years now, and paying the minimum has got me to a point where I am now unable to live...Can anyone suggest some useful help?

That's one serious overspend. Are you really going £1,603.62 further into debt each month. I don't think so. The problem with that SOA is that it doesn't tell us how many people this is for and what debts you have outstanding. That SOA program also seems to double count some things which makes it look a lot worse than it is. Try doing it again using soacalc from makesenseofcards. http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

I have made some comments above. There's some big cutbacks that you can make. With groceries, drink, food at work and eating out you spend £600 per month on food!! Plus the amount you spend on running on a car this all adds up to over £1000 per month. You have not said if you live alone or if there are children in the house?

You should think about using the soa calculator on here (link in above post) so that you are also listing your debts and their respective aprs.

stop everything non essential....and that includes family days out...eating out...DVD's...fun shopping etc...

that's if you are serious about getting out of debt...your family will just have to understand that unless you do this you will be in debt misery forever...go for it

You are living completley beyond your means and need to immediately cut your family days out, entertainment, hobbies, eating out, winter and summer holidays. This would save you considerable sums of money - introduce them back when you have got control of your debts when you will enjoy them. I don't see how you can actually enjoy spending this money on these things when you must be worried sick inside about the amount you are spending.

Agree. There's so much you can cut back on here that you should be able really to start addressing the credit card debt & getting it paid off.

OP:
all the hobbies and eating out needs to stop, you really can't afford a holiday (let alone 2 a year, winter and summer...)
you can not afford to eat at work. Make your own sandwiches or pasta etc ( check the forum as there are tons of menu plans)
You can not afford family days out.
Are you on a water meter? If not see if that would help.
Remove the travel insurance as you can not afford the holiday anyway.


There are loads of things you can do to cut down on what you spend but I guess it depends on if you want to or not.
