Does anyone know if the Mk1 Focus 1.8 Zetec has an ODBII connector on it?

  • OBDI and OBDII refer to NAS onboard diagostics legislation. I'm guessing that you have a EURO spec car and it will meet the EOBD legislation of the day. I think what you really mean is... does it have a J1962 conector? Answer... yes, but ive no idea where. Its fitted on may cars under the facia/glove box area.

Ummm. The position may be correct but as it is my job to certify vehicles to EOBD i can tell you that EOBD is a relaxed version of OBD-II required in Europe since Model Year 2003 for diesel vehicles and 2001 for gasoline vehicles.

I've been told in the past that a lot of new cars use 'CANBus', can I assume this is yet another name for it?.

Anyway, I asked as for Xmas I may get one of those diagnostic modules that plug in to the ODBII port, hence the op.

CANBUS is (and this is a very simplistic explanation, it's very technical) a new method of connecting components in the car to the ECU, they are now laid out more like a computer network and in theroy everything communicates with each other though a common "bus".
