  • Ranger Services?
  • Worth noting on this strand that in excess of 50 companies have electronic access to the DVLA database. Most of them PP ticket outfits.
The only (DVLA) criteria for electronic access is to be a member of the British Parking Association "Approved Operator" (!!) scheme.
The BPA appears to have no scruples about the bona fide of the members and from my experience stops communicating with complainers when attention is drawn to appalling behaviour and allows the "Approved Operator" status to continue unchallenged.

Remember the BPA is nothing but a club for scammers. If they stopped the appalling behaviour of their members, they'd have no members left and would make no money.

They should be renamed the BSC (British Scamming Club)

  • "Owners of private land will often want recourse to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to secure information about vehicle ownership. DVLA policy is to ensure that organisations such as private car parking operators are subject to adequate controls and safeguards before disclosing personal data about vehicle keepers. To safeguard the release of information from DVLA's vehicle record, the agency requires parking enforcement companies to be a member of an accredited trade association. To retain membership of such an ATA, the company must abide by its code of practice to promote fair treatment of motorists. Car parking operators who do not comply will face expulsion from the ATA and will not be able to access personal data in the course of their business. So far, the British Parking Association is the only relevant ATA for the parking industry.

As far as I know they have never dumped anyone for being a scamming. Unless they stop Ranger Services et al from selling on the numbers then they are up the river without a paddle.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

The DVLA won't stop selling your details to the scamers, as it's a nice little earner for them. I'm surprised they haven't raised the fee to £3 by now.

I should like to see it raised to £20. This would discourage many PPCs from making too many requests, and for those who are determined to still use the service it will hit them where it hurts, in their pockets..
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

A national PPC baiting week may be a good idea, see how many tickets we can all collect and knowing it costs them £2.50 each and that they won't get any money from any of the baiters to pay for it :j

Another idea is perhaps a good samaritan service. This involves either leaving a note for those ticketed, or removing the ticket and appealing with fake details so they don't get pestered. This would obviously have to operate outside of a national baiting week.

I certainly agree with disseminating this information as widely as possible. Is there a facebook group?
