Just doing some research for a future present for the Mrs,
Am a bit ahead of time as we are just selling ours and looking for the right house, anyway I noted the reaction of my wife when we watched SATC 1st film and she spotted Carries wardrobe.
We have been looking at houses with 2-3 spare bedrooms, and my plan would be to take the biggest of the lot or knock two into one depending on layout and convert it into a temple of fashion.
So my main question is, if you could have the dressing room of your dreams what would you have in it? What is essential?
I do have access to an architect and a very talented joiner from whom I can get mates rates.

WOW, she is one lucky lady!!!
Plenty of shoe storage, (remember the one on the film overboard?) Shelves for hand bags, a three way mirror, shelves for folded stuff, at least 4 meters of hanging rails. Drawers for underwear, and if make- up is going to be done in there, privacy, but natural light.
HTH
Sharron xSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -

Also a full length mirror (but hidden so not always visible for any not so slim days), places to store scarves, necklaces, underwear, tights / stockings / socks, and storage for knee boots. And don't forget that shelves & drawers are best made from cedar wood to repel moths0

Shoe storage is a given she has over 100pairsm and has recently put 8 foot of clothes into storage as part of the de-clutter to sell house  traumatised she was.
Yeah like that But I wouldnt be impressed with a room full of beer! Also a full length mirror (but hidden so not always visible for any not so slim days), places to store scarves, necklaces, underwear, tights / stockings / socks, and storage for knee boots. Shr mentioned she likes the mirrors in M&S as they seem to be more flattering than other shops, so might see if I can find out who supplies M & S.0 -

If she should ever get bored of you I'd be more than willing to fill the vacancy........................;)0 -
I think if you are going to go to that expense the only persons opinion who counts is your wifes....I know you want it as a present but it will be an expensive mistake to rectify....don't you think?Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

Wow- now thats a partner to keep! Thats amazing your looking for something for her like this, am sure it will be very welcome!
If I had such a wardrobe, I'd have inside:
Space for all my shoes and all my boots- boots need more space then shoes, heels need more space then trainers. Shoes would need enough room to take this into consideration as well as being covered to prevent dust and light damage.
Space for coats, jackets and outterware
Space for eveningware, (some shoes could also go here).
Space for dayware. These things can often be folded but it would be nice to hang as much as possible. I don't wear dresses as I don't trust anything I can't run in! But if your OH does, hanging space is then essential. Jeans, trousers and tops can often be folded and this is fine.
A section for underware, socks/tights and night ware.
A section for makeup, another for jewellery and another for hair, skin, bath and body stocks- all about the same size, shelving would be good, boxes on the shelves would keep out dust.
Space for gym and keep fit stuff- you could be surpized, many people own and become attached to this stuff even if they don't use it! Its good for it to have a space other then under the bed.
But I do think as much as this is a fantastic idea, it should be up to your wife to place stuff, I am sure she'd enjoy doing this. Just as much space, shelving and rail space as possible- about 30% for shoes, 60% for clothes and 10% for cosmetics, skincare and jewelery. Even though there is space, transparent boxes can come in very useful so could be an idea to stock up on many matching transparent boxes.0 -

I remember watching a programme years ago about mirrors in shops and they hang them on a slight slant so you look slimmer, go to M&S and have a look, maybe this is the difference!0 -
