what to do with old PC monitor

Hiya
Apologies if this is the wrong section ( move me if you want )
I want some advice as I have just joined the 20th C and change my monitor to a flat screen and the old bulky one has been shoved under the stairs.
However I don't want it as it takes up far too much room.
I have had a look on my council web site and there is no mention of recycling stuff like this and I really dont want to just chuck in in the tip as there is a big notice over the skip saying
" do you need to put this in here where it will go into costly landfill". I feel obliged to do something eco friendly with it.
Any suggestions

Freecycle it!! http://www.freecycle.org/
Find your local group, join up and post an OFFERED message and wait for someone local to pick it up. You get rid of it and someone else gets use and it's not gone to landfill.0 -

I have hit a snag! Joined freecycle and managed to put up an "offered" message, checked this morning and it is there, but.... how do I know if someone wants it? I know have a yahoo email address but don't know how to access it. ( Doh)

Just realised I didn't put my phone number on either! So just added that.:o
Andy L Just in case I have no luck with freecycle, which charities would take it. The hospice one near me won't take electrical stuff.0 -
You have a profile on Yahoo groups and you can put an email address on there and any replies will automatically be sent there then.0

I once put an old PC and a monitor out in the vain hope that the bin men would take them with the rubbish.
They didn't, but I left it there and it was gone within a few hours!0 -
