Direct Legal Collections Debt

Hi Guys,
I have a old debt from back in 2001 that was passed to DLC which I have been paying back on a monthly basis.
I have never missed a payment at my agreed rate but every 6 months they demand more money and its now at a limit I can afford but can not pay any more and they keep hounding me about it.
They called today and said they wanted the full remaining amount of just under £5,000.
They called me a a liar for saying that I had aranged with the last person to call from them to keep it at the aranged amount for 12 months as I have started a new job and the training last a year so would be on a lower pay until I am fully trained up.
I am at the stage now I dont want to pay them back at all as they have realy p@!*d me off now.
What can I do and what are my rights??

I would request your consumer credit agreement which will buy you some time and if they do not provide it within 12 days then you can stop paying them until they provide it.
If they cannot provide it at all then the debt will be legally unenforceable and they cannot take you to court. However they can still chase you for the debt because the debt still exists and report the default on your credit file for 6 years.
As your debt is from 9 years ago the default should be off your credit file by now and when you stop paying them they cannot default you again because a default can only be registered once.
DLC are a very nasty company to deal with so do not talk to them on the phone and deal with them in writing only and if they get very nasty with you then send a letter of complaint and refer it to FOS.0 -
Definitely get any agreements made in writing, send your offers in writing and if you get harrassed by them there is a letter on here somewhere to say I only wish to be contacted in writing, but I agree with the above poster.

Stop all payments immediately, send off for proof of the debt & stop speaking to these clowns on the phone - refuse to answer security questions if they phone you.
Then report them to the OFT & trading standards.0
