Hi guys before we begin can i point out i know nothing about laptops.
It's a compaq presario cq60, when i press the on button it switches on but nothing comes up at all just a blank screen, i can hear the fan whirring away and the on light is on and the internet light is lit up, when i shut it down the on button constantly flashes and will not go out, thanks in advance sorry it's not explained in more technical terms

Is there a beep when you turn it on?
Is it plugged in with an adaptor?
Does it make any sounds that it usually doesn't or vica versa?
If you have one try plugging an external monitor into it to see if it is the screen that has died. It may be that you have accidentally switched the input to an external monitor so hold down the FN key and press the relevant F key that has a picture of a TV/monitor on it
