Well , thats it for the Halifax , no help at all.
Basically said the same thing , they won't offer us a new mortgage and when my wife asked if she could appeal , they said "no , sorry , no point , they will only say the same". We can't understand why they are treating us like lepers , so i've contacted a mortgage broker that my eldest son used last year and we'll see what he comes up with.
Thanks for the help and advice folks and hope the halifax goes bust.0 -
The Halifax are a disgrace when it comes to porting a mortgage. I had the same issue about 18 months ago. I had a portable mortgage but when it came to wanting to port it they said "sorry, it's not portable". I asked why and the manager there said "well, it is a portable mortgage, but as we no longer do the product that you have there is nothing to port it to"! An absolute outrage. I threatened to report them to the ombudsman and to be honest they didn't care.
I've never, ever, defaulted on my mortgage, but because when they gave me my deal they didn't require a huge deposit all of a sudden I'm high-risk. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Good luck OP, you may well need it.0 -
I have had exactly the same issue, last year.
Basically when I took my mortgage out (pre-banking crisis), I purposefully took out a portable mortgage, knowing that I was considering moving in the next year or so. When it came to porting I got passed around the houses, told "yes, it's portable", and then "no, not portable". I then got a 'manager' who said "yes, your mortgage is portable". "great" I replied "these are the details of the new property" - then here comes the best bit:
Halifax man "Hold on a minute sir. Before we go on I must point out that yes, you have a portable mortgage, but you can't port it to another property. This is because your mortgage product is not on our list anymore, so where are you going to port it?".
Have you ever felt rage build up inside you so much that you want to smash your telephone through your window? Well I have. Thank you Mr Halifax. They certainly don't give you extra, OP, the only problem is that telling them where to shove their mortgage is exactly what they want you to do.0 -
As this site proved with the reclaiming of charges, the banks don't always win, but let's be honest, they usually do.
My advise, don't waste any more of your time with on them. Get an IFA and get them to sort you a mortgage with someone else. It sounds like they are losing a good customer to me.0 -
Doesn't matter, who cares, move on. There is no reason to get fixated on Halifax, their rates are nothing special and there is no particular reason to stay with them. You should be able to get a better 75% deal from another lender with a more reasonable credit score.0

Two questions. Firstly are one or both of you self employed & secondly was your original mortgage through Birmingham & Midshires/ Halifax?
