Egg F&F?

Hi Guys

need your advice and opinions again.

Hubs owes Egg £4580 - and last week I sent a letter offering them a F&F of £2700.

This morning hubs received a letter from them saying

"we have been trying unsuccessfully to contact you regarding the query on your Egg Loan account"

I find this strange as we were both off work last week and around the house more than usual, there were no messages either - odd as when hubs wasn't paying them they had no bother getting through - anyway I digress.

They have asked hubs to "contact their Recoveries Agent Support Team, as they need to speak to him in order to clarify this query".

Thing is I don't think its a good idea and would prefer to keep things going down the written route.

Am I being too cautious? Should hubs call them?

Thanks

Miss P

  • I am no expert but with me it is simple - everything in writing. i might be tempted to call them out of curiousity to see what they are saying but would not agree or say anything except to ask them to put what they want to discuss in a letter

What reasons did you put forward for your offer?
  • I would call to see what they want but only move forward when you have things in writing.

  • The letter I sent on 28th Aug was

"As you are aware I am currently on a Debt Management Plan with Payplan and as I cannot see my circumstances changing dramatically in the foreseeable future, it is likely it will take in excess of 10 years to clear the outstanding amount on this account.

With the help of my family I am able to make an offer of £2700, as an ex-gratia payment in full and final settlement of the account. This amount is being made available to me for a limited time only to clear this debt.

This offer is made on the clear understanding that, if accepted, neither you, nor any associate company will take any other action to enforce or pursue this debt in any way whatsoever and that I will be released for any liability.

I also request that, if accepted, you will make an entry on a credit reference agency file relating to the above account as "satisfied" in full.

The money is being made available for a limited time for me to clear this debt, so I would appreciate a reply by

    .

Payment can be made within 2 weeks of receiving your written agreement of this offer and method of payment.

However if you are unable to accept my offer then I will regrettably have to withdraw the offer to yourselves and offer it to another creditor. I will continue paying my monthly re-payments to you as previously via Payplan.

I look forward to receiving your reply."

I don't think you are being too cautious at all. It seems they've just sent you a standard reply letter.

I would not call them and if you do not get a letter back from them about your offer, write again stating that the offer is about to expire and would like a written response to your query.

  • Just penned up a reply, is it too curt do you think?

Thank you for your letter of 6th September 2010, however I have no desire to enter into a telephone conversation with your Recoveries Agent Support Team, I would much prefer to keep any correspondence with you by letter

    Hi Miss Poohs

You are playing this very well.

Personally I think the above paragraph is fine but I would follow it up by repeating your offer and reminding them that if they do not accept by the 28th September that the offer will go to another creditor.

    Good luck!

They'll probably tell me to naff off, but hey hoo - its fun.
