We would now like to invite you to attend an assessment. This will include different exercises to allow you to demonstrate your suitability for the role and for us to get to know you. It should last no longer than 35 minutes (although we ask that you allow an hour) and will also provide you with an opportunity to see what it is like to work for Boots. As part of the exercise will be on the shop floor, we ask that you wear smart dress.

Anyone have any experience or advice to share?

Also I assume its min wage.
Is it min wage?
Is there a Sunday/Bank Holiday bonus?
What is staff discount lol

    Hey!

You will be asked to hand out baskets to customers entering store, just smile and be pleasent :) Next you will need to give out some leaflets which could be any that are available instore at the moment, just take time to look at them before approaching customers. Again they're looking for happy, confident staff :) After that you will stand behind a cashier and pack some bags, again showing the above. Try not to be too nervous, just pretend you already have the job and act accordingly :) Then you will be taken to a display shelf and asked what you would change.. Generally labels infront of correct products, everything pulled to the front, make sure its wiped of dust ect and anything thats out of stock has a label to say so :) Then you'll be taken out the back and asked general questions like where you see yourself in 5 years (I can't remember the others lol)

As for your other questions.. Its above minimum wage. At 16 (2 years ago) I started on £5.29 :) I don't know how old you are but at 18 now I'm on over a pound more but this is with 2 pay rises, and it also depends on which city your working in :) It you are kept on permanently you receive quarterly bonus' and like I said company pay rises every now and again :)

There is no time and a half ect for Sundays anymore, although some staff in your store may be on old contracts so may still receive it :) Bank holidays are time and a half (27th and 28th (I think, but might just be 27th) of December).

As temp staff you will be given a temp card which can only be used in the store you work in, and apparently only on the days you work.

Boots products (No7, Sanctuary ect) 22.5%
    Anything else 12.5 %

There is also a double discount day late October, Start of November which is double the discount so great for presents :) this is 45% and 25%

    Hope this helps x

  • Hiya,

I had job interview. It was just 20mins of questions. I felt quite confident going into the job as I had 3 yearsexperience christmas temping at M&s. Then one year at Next.

Just got email today that I was unsuccessful. The emailsaid I was a good interview and should still apply for future jobs.

Up until June this year I have been in 2 permanent jobs for the council. One as a payroll officer, and the other as an assistant accountant. Both of which have givern me glowing reviews.

Since being made redundant I have basically applied for EVERYTHING. I get temp jobs from agencies for 1 week here and there, but other than that NOTHING.

I just feel like giving up, my confidence is at an all time low. I just don;t know what to do, I'm now £200 in debt.

I'm just gonna apply for every christmas job going, but I just don't understand why no one will employ me. I get such positive feedback from interviews. there is always someone better than me.
  • I had an interview with Boots yesterday - it was a weird experience! I asked for the person who's name I had been given in the e mail, but she was "with visitors" so I was taken upstairs and waited in the tea room for a few minutes. Then a lady came and asked me to come with her. She didn't introduce herself, so I've no idea who she was! She did the interview, but she hadn't seen my cv, and so knew nothing about me and didn't even know what vacancy I had applied for.

She had run out of interview forms, so she just made notes on a piece of paper. The only two interview type questions she asked were "if you were stacking shelves and a customer asked you for help what would you do?" and "why do you want to work for Boots?" She did say I had a nice handbag though!

She said if the vacancy I had applied for had been taken (she obviously didn't know anything about it) I would be put in a pool for six months and if another vacancy comes up I will be offered it without going through the interview process again.

Then she said "we would normally take you down to the shop floor to hand out leaflets or baskets, but we don't have any leaflets at the moment and it's too cold to stand by the door handing out baskets, so we won't bother with that"

35 minutes? I was in and out of the shop within 15!

I've got to wait for an e mail to see if I was successful - but if I'm not, I'm half inclined to complain as I didn't get a proper interview!
