Tax mess for pensioners!?!?!

Hi to all....my parents are both retired but while my father worked he was given the 'use' of a company car to do his various duties. This wasn't officially his and had to be given up any time a delivery car was needed....he's now panicking about the whole tax mix up as he's not too sure if he should have been paying tax on this....just as everyone else in the mix up he trusted his employer to act correctly but now he's not sure.....the company is no longer trading and he retired 2 years ago.....he's really worried and I don't know enough about it...can anyone put our minds at rest...thank you x

  • The question is what use did he have of the car outside his work duties?

  • If it was not official I doubt it will be a problem, especially considering the company is no longer trading. The HMRC is unlikely to have details of the car been a taxable benefit, and if they were then it would have shown on his p60 in the past anyway. If no one has told the HMRC about it, then they won't know. He was only making use of company assets when they were not in use.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
