Advice please! Problems with reception venue

I would have a look around and see where else you could have your wedding and what they could offer you.
Once you have this information then go for your face to face meeting with the current venue and take it from there.
I would still be pretty angry after the reply if i were in your position. As has been said already, i read it as they are sorry for getting caught, not actually doing it! You may find after meeting them that they genuinely sorry and the email just comes across wrong (which is often the case, as people read into things differently), but i would go in there knowing your options first. I'd also be asking for a discount if i did hold the wedding there!
Good luck

Personally, I think they have apologised and are trying to make ammends. TBH, with such horrendous words, I do not think there is a lot they could actually say to justify what was written.
Having had problems with my wedding venue (a different type of problem to yours), we never received an apology which was all I was looking for in the first place.
I think you need to go and meet them face to face and see their reaction towards you and see how you feel about the venue now. When we first visited our venue after our problems started, the place had lost all its magic and all I could think was of the lies we had been told - I knew we could not have our wedding day there but had I felt different and had our manager apologised at all, I would have had a different opinion. I think until you go there, you will not know your true feelings.
There's no harm in trying and also youi might be able to wangle a few more freebies/discounts.
Are there any other venues around which could offer you similar for the same price and would you be happy with any of the other venues?0 -
The bit I don't understand is them saying that "Jason did not understand your reasons for trying to cancel".
I would have thought the loss of a job and therefore a budget review would be very easy to understand.
I would be very concerned about continuing to deal with this hotel, and a free nights accomodation is not much compared to the cost of a wedding reception.0 -

I think you need to read it again. It states that Justin, the groom was struggling to understand the reasons, Helen the receptionist was giving him for not returning deposit. ie: its in the T&Cs0 -
We knew before we rang what it stated in their T&C but, 'if you dont ask, you dont get'. There was no harm in us asking so thats what we did!
I've e-mailed the manager back asking to meet up.
As has been said, I dont know if I was reading into it too much, but to me it reads that Helen calls customers !!!!!! in lots of situations?? Well thats really profesional. I deal with customers everyday and I know some of them can be right pains and rude, but I would never write it down on their records as it is unprofessional and disrespectful! You just get on it and accept you cant please everybody no matter how hard you try.
I hate complaining to people and making a fuss. (other than the odd rant and moan, I am a woman you know!)Even at restaurants if the food is horrible I still eat it or leave it and not complain, I just hate any type of confrontation! So Im not looking forward to feeling uncomfortable when I go down to meet them.
I have spoken to a couple of other venue's that we liked and they are both booked for that date but I will still keep looking. I just hope they havent all got weddings that day.
I could always try a different date but then I would have to see if the church/photographer ect are all free for this date as all deposits have been paid , and ive also booked honeymoon flights!
Thank you all for your replys, Zoe0
