1 year on since LBM

So far we have paid of £7077.07 of our debt with some help from my husbands parents. We are getting there slowly.

Feeling wise, I'm feeling quite down again at the moment, i want it to be all over, not so i can spend but just so i can start saving, which is novel!! Hubby is wasting money a bit at the moment (see other post) and i feel like screaming at the top of my lungs at him but hey ho.

I feel even more confident about money saving this year, we've lost sight over the last 6 months and silly spending has crept back in, but we need to tighten our belts again! I've decided to try drawing out £100 a seeing how long it last but with the option of not drawing anymore out before the beginning of the next week? IN theory though i'd like the £100 to last us till payday (28th)

i'm just babbling now but.. anything to keep me away from spending eh ;)

  • Keep going. Look at what you've achieved so far! It comes to an end eventually, and then you get to try new things (like saving!).

I found on my slog (11 months of non-stop debt-busting) that actually, I'd probably have been happier having a splurge here and there and adding another month or so on to my debt-freedom date. So don't kick yourselves for "wasting" money if you're still on track. You will go slightly mad otherwise.

Do you realise Caz that £7077.07 is a MASSIVE 30.56% of £23,157.76?

Not sure that stood out enough... You have already (in a very short space of time) cleared THIRTY POINT FIVE SIX PERCENT of your debt!!!

    :T:T:T:T:T:T:T

That is NOTHING to loose heart at, I'm sure I shall be utterly delighted when I stand where you are now!

    WELL DONE!
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • Hi Caz, you've done fantastically at clearing so much of your debt :j its natural that the desire to keep at it & the feel good factor will ebb & flow. This time last year me & oh were really pretty low about the scarifices we were making for an eternity gone by and for as far forward as we could see! (within a week we both sat on our bed crying because it felt so hard) Is there anyway you could have a small treat now just to celebrate what you've done & how far you've come? Maybe just what you need to keep on track without letting things get out of hand, remind yourselves what you've done, how far you've come & reaffirm (sorry too early to spell :o) your committment? Can you do anything to up your income? We hosted foreign students all summer to get some extra cash together to have a holiday, maybe you could do something similar?

Good luck, you've done fantastically xx

  • Thanks all,

I was wondering about the % Hannah, that makes me smile a little :) and think yeah we've not done bad :) Were quite lucky a in a way Determined, my mum has paid for a weeks holiday for us and 2 mini breaks (one at easter and the other is in October) so nice little treats there. Also my Mum spoils my little girl rotten (as does h's mum) they have paid for her Kindermusik for her birthday for the year and My Mum has took us to the circus, were off to see Disney on ice, and she is booking to go on the santa steam train. - I'm sure most of this passes her by *she is 2 in November* However she loves her music group and sat completely still for 2 hours at the circus in awe :)

Were in a difficult patch here as i have no wage until 25th October and were are struggling quite a lot we've lots in though and fingers crossed we can make it through till then!! *hubby gets paid end of sept but my wage normally does the extra debt paying, food and petrol so it is going to be tough.

    Thanks again

You've done fantastically well, its normal to feel depressed at some time or another, its just cos you're wanting to bring your debt down. I think you should be giving yourself a pat on the back!!
  • Hi Caz

Think you have done brilliantly in only one year. Don't be downhearted and give yourselves a big pat on the back x
