Buying a Diamond Ring Online?

Hi,

I'm after some advice really as i'm maybe looking to get my partner one after being together 10 years! long overdue really!!

Good or bad idea? I like the fact that you probably would get more for your money i guess than the high street.

I live in Manchester so Hatton Gardens etc etc is not really an option ( searched this subject!)

I have been on the samarajames.com website and that looks very good and i've also heard bluenile.co.uk and one other mentioned too.

Any advice guys 'n gals to a very undecided person!

Fire away :)

Mine came from Blue Nile. I liked it particularly because you can choose the exact diamond that you want from their extensive collection. Got a much better quality diamond for the price than i would have got on the high street.

  • We got my engagement and wedding ring from Blue Nile. Could not recommend them highly enough, the customer service was fantastic and I am over the moon with the quality of the products (sounds like I work for them, but can assure you I dont!). My poor husband had to settle with a wedding ring from Tesco! I liked the fact that you could pick the diamond quality you wanted with Blue Nile, plus all the diamonds are certified and they dont deal in blood diamonds.

My fiance proposed 3 weeks ago after 8 years, with a cheapo ring from Argos!!!
We then looked together online as he knows I can be a fusspot and he wanted me to have something I liked as I'm wearing it for the rest of my life.
I actually love my Argos one, 232/4069 looks the same but mine is white gold, and no one can tell it's not a real diamond! I have had to argue with people that it's not!!!
My "real" one is from Serendipity Diamonds, but it's not here yet so I can't say it's any good!!!

My engagement ring was from Samara James and they gave a brilliant service - plus you can ask them to send you a silver and cubic zurconia sample (you pay a safety deposit) to try on first. That is, if you're lady knows she is getting a ring!

It would be a surprise but i know exactly what she wants!

0.5 carat/Platinum ( because she has a reaction to white gold!!) Princess Cut and decent clarity... not much then :rotfl:

Samara James i have had a few very informative emails off explaining the ins and outs of diamonds and i even got a free ring sizer off them!

I've heard loads recommending Blue Nile aswell.

Same here. Not that I did the choosing - hubby to be did that! But it's a beautiful ring, and he was able to get a diamond with exactly the right spec that he wanted (i.e. excellent cut for maximum sparklies!).

6 months on and it's still beautiful, very sparkly and I love it. :)

I've had a look (again) at BlueNile & Samara James and the latter seem to have more choice in band size - she's after a thickish band not one that pinches towards the diamond... very fussy she is!!

Thats exactly why we went to blue nile. I couldnt find anyone else online able to offer such choice. I also went for excellent cut, still way sparkly a year on. :)
