I'll be watching your threat..... It’ll be great to see how you do and for once, I’ve spotted one from the beginning - rather than 325 pages in!
Just a small tip.....instead of buying the papers, read about it on line by going to the websites of the papers.... that’s what I do.
Good luck.... I’m sure I’ll comment again

So, Tuesday, I spend £2 on a donation for a leaving present for someone and that's it

Stnetotsman - I did think that someone would post that about the papers, but I don't get the same pleasure from reading a paper on line as I do from reading a real paper! I don't buy them every day, but we do like reading them on a Sunday!0 -
ShopaholicNoMore wrote: »You're right about the buying things in asda thing - as I was buying the two bottles of water today, I thought I should buy a multi pack in future! I just need to be more organised!
To save money, I would reuse water bottles (ignore the label telling you not to!), filling them with tap water (if you don't already). But yes, buy a multipack, then if you refill the bottles they will last for ages.
Alternatively you could buy specifically designed reusable water bottles. Bottled mineral water is a con!0 -
I've got the impression you're a new mum.... but you manage to read the Sunday papers... you must be some sort of timelord! But I agree, I indulge in a newspaper once a week as it just seems better than online. Bonus: when weaning, they make really good floor protector mats under the highchair. When done, bundle up into compost.0

Bottled water scares the living daylights out of me:
1) I imagine my hard earned pennies going to some sort of Del n Rodney duo doing a 'Peckham Spring'-type con (I have an over-active imagination!)
2) all the landfill
3) Google 'phthalates' and 'bisphenol A', if you're feeling brave
4) if you want a laugh, work out what Evian is backwards
Agree with mememememe: I asked for a nice metal (I think its a Sigg brand or something) bright pink water bottle for my birthday. Filled with tap water and sterilised regularly (as a mum you may have sterilising tabs easily to hand?). Saves a fortune!0 -
Haha, the Sunday papers don't necessarily get read all on a Sunday! It spreads the fun out!!
Re the water thing-we have a machine at work so I could refill it here easily! Thanks for the tip!
Today I was really stressed out this morning and didn't have time to make lunch so am spending £1.20 on soup and a roll. I also need to get thr train later and a taxi -I could walk but it's quite far, pouring with rain and I'm in a huge rush so I'm going to splash out the few quid on the taxi. I know this is the basis of my spending problems-I think it's just a few pounds but I know how they all add up!0 -
well done - I need to start doing this, but I'm quite scared! However I have managed to get £15k debt down to £7k, so it's in the right direction!!
My main question is following on from the water topic.. I love sparkling water, rather than still. Would putting tap water through a soda stream have the same result?
Thanks0 -

Heard of Dasani from Coca-Cola?
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasani#United_Kingdom :...the source of the Dasani brand water was in fact treated tap water from Sidcup, a suburban development in London.
No probs! I love the nice chilled water from those machinesShopaholicNoMore wrote: »Re the water thing-we have a machine at work so I could refill it here easily! Thanks for the tip!

You say that you're going to take the taxi later, but how do you know it will still be raining later? Wait and see.... or you could invest in an umbrella. Also the walking will help with the slimming, hence less need for the paid-for slimming classes!
Very well done on your progress so far

Memememe, you're right of course...I've brought my brolly with me so I'm going to get a taxi there for speed but walk back if I have time. Train cost £8.90! Ridiculous!!0

Good compromise

For future reference, have a look at www.thetrainline.com or www.nationalrail.co.uk as soon as you know you're going to make a train journey, advance fares (which only let you travel on a specific train at a specific train, specified by you when you book) are sometimes much cheaper and, subject to availability, can be booked until the evening before travel and collected from the train station on the day of travel.0
