New ceiling lights - using energy efficient & inexpensive bulbs?

I want to replace my light fittings BUT I’m amazed that I can’t seem to find any that take an ordinary bayonet fitting energy saving light bulb. OK they were BIG initially but they are so much smaller now and very inexpensive too.

The powers that be – in their wisdom or NOT? They decided that the old incandescent bulbs we could no longer buy to save energy. Hmmmmm! I’m now finding that the ceiling lights instead of using 100W bulb or 23W (energy efficient) now often use 200 or 240W worth of G4 or G10 bulbs – where is the saving now?? Apart from that the bulbs don’t last as long as the ‘energy saving’ bulbs we were all persuaded/forced to buy and if you want energy efficient ones they appear to cost an arm and a leg.

Has anyone found anywhere that offers a decent range of fittings that take your bog standard bayonet bulbs? Even uplighters now seem to take 2 or 3 G4 type bulbs – WHY?

Short of replacing my fittings with new old type ceiling roses & using lampshades – which I don’t want to do - it appears there is no alternative to fitting energy wasting & costly ‘new type’ bulbs.

Has anyone found a good supplier of decent lighting fixtures that take the ordinary bayonet type or a source of reasonably priced new type ‘energy efficient’ lighting/bulbs?

Am I the only person frustrated by this?:mad:
