Im really confused about my husbands tax can some one help

Hi my Husband came out of work in Sep 08 but didnt get employed again till April 09 does that mean he had paid to much tax for that tax year, as he never got a refund, because he only worked part of that year ? (He earned around £7000 and paid around £750 in tax )

he started his new job in April 09 and until April 10 his tax code showed 647L mth1 wk1 would he have overpaid or underpaid? His tax code from april 10 as now changed to 647L cumilitive written underneath.

On the face of it finishing work in Sept 08 suggests a strong possibility of an overpayment but you have to take into account what he received in dole (or is it JSA now?) To give you a quality answer we need figures.
What was his total earnings and tax paid from his P45 when he finished working in Sept 08?
Did he claim the dole from Sep 08 to April 09?
Does he have the equivalent of a P60 for the dole payments?
If he claimed the dole did he hand over his P45 to the Job Centre?
If he didn’t claim the dole, why not?
As regards the new job in April 09 the theory of a month1/ week 1 code is that you suffer the correct amount of tax for the week or month taken in isolation but you could miss out a little bit.
As he worked for the whole of the tax year it seems most likely that his tax deductions will prove to be correct but if anything has gone wrong it is more likely that he has overpaid and is due a refund.
Again figures really do matter. Does he have a P60 for 2009/10?
Do you care to share the details with us?
Did he receive any dole payments between 6 April 2009 and the date he started working?
