NATWEST unarranged overdraft fee query

Hello - I am constantly posting this week which I think is a positive sign.

I have posted in another thread about this but to recap,

Last month I knew I didnt have enough in my NATWEST current account to cover natwest loan. I had paid all utilities, mortgage etc and withdrawn cash to pay for food, petrol etc.etc. I asked for advice and was told to talk directly to them. I was thinking of cancellin direct debit online but thought they would just reinstate anyway.

I rang NATWEST and was told they would temporarily increase my overdraft to cover enough to meet the loan payment - but guess what they didn't temporarily increase it but they still look the loan payment out.

So then I was sent over my arranged overdraft limit.

I phoned them about this but was told nothing was arranged - end of story.

I have just written them a letter this week (only posted yesterday so they won't have acted on it yet) but
I have had a very long standard type letter about this today but it is a bit ambiguous and states something along lines of being charge £20 or £25 (sorry havent got letter in front of me) each day of unarranged overdraft. Does this mean they are going to charge me this each day until my account goes back within my arranged limit . That is another 8 days (and it has already been 10 days since they took it) Anybody know the answer to this.

Would really like some advice - now worrying that when my salary goes in they will take out another £200 plus for charges ????? PANIC

(By the way have this morning applied online for a halifax easycash account so hope I get it) RON

Right well until your Halifax account is set up then get the pay department to hold your wages or just this once to pop them in your girlfriend/Mum/daughters account because you need to eat man, your creditors get paid after you've got the cash for a trip to Asda, not before! Same deal with electric, gas, etc. Some things are priorities, some things aren't. Basically speaking a proirity is anything that can cause you serious harm by not paying and anything payed to the government. Your credit debts take thier pay after that.

This learned helplnessness thingy about not cancelling the DD is not good either, cancel it. Yeah so they will probably stick thier hands in your current account if they can anyway (under the right of set off, read this) but that's no reason to roll over and make it easy on them! Most importantly, don't let your pay hit that current account. Nat West WILL take it off you, as wrong as it is and as much as they shouldn't, they are going to, so don't let them.

The answer to it is to claim back the bank charges on the grounds of hardship. That however is a tomorrow problem. The today problem is keeping your wages to yourself.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • thanks - yep you are right. I can now see that a different mindset is required. I will contact payroll and see if they can do that for me this month. thanks
