Home Bargains, Wilkinsons or Poundstretcher?

I expect to be in Letchworth over the weekend, it's about 20 miles so too far for regular shopping, my nearest supermarket is Mr Ts, which is only 8 miles away. A colleague recently said there is a Wilkinsons, Home Bargains and a Poundstretcher too!

Looking for all the normal shopping things, too much to list but includes loo rolls, shower gel and shampoo, cat/dog/wild bird food, tealights, bleach, food items including tea/coffee, squash, rice and pasta, and also looking for end-of-season gardening bargains.

I think I'll only have time to visit one of these stores, which should it be? I did go to Wilkinsons in Ely a few years ago and could easily have spent a fortune, but had parked too far away to carry much! Never been to HB or Poundstretcher, are they all much the same?

I'll be near Lidl too and might have time to pop in there for the rest of the food so I won't have to visit Mr T at all!

  • you can check out what wilko and poundstreacher has online, so why not check them out before you go and if you can't find what you need from there, pop into HB?

    (Personally, I love wilkos...)
  • Wilko's is my fave I got far more excited than I should when I found out that they were opening a store in the Arndale shopping centre lol.
  • Although I love Home Bargains, I would agree with Wilkinson's for what you have listed.
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)
  • Just to throw a cat in among the pigeons,...

Personally I find that Home Bargains and Pound stretcher are cheaper than Wilko's but it does depend if your after particular brands or are willing to take pot luck. My personal fave is HB as you never know what you will find but then that may work against you too.

Wilko's is fab but seems to have moved up a bit for some things in my opinion. I like pink numbers idea

HB for me - better bargains to be had imo - though less dependable tog et certain brands than wilko. Our local p-stretcher is a dump so tend to avoid

  • I like Wilkinsons because they do some fantastic reduced items. This morning I picked up two bags of Werther's toffees, marked at 20p each - they are really yummy, too!

Home bargains is the best for value :j
  • Very many thanks to all for your input, I ended up having 3 clear hours :) so I trawled HB, Wilkos, Poundstretcher, Poundland and four charity shops! Very restrained, got a gorgeous fleece throw in one, then a few bits in HB, and bird food in Poundstretcher - Wilkinsons was a bit disappointing, but I just wasn't looking for any of the items they had on good offers. Lidl didn't have our favourite ACE juice, I got some sausages on offer, and I like their gammon so we'll have that tomorrow, and I still went to Tesco for the rest of the groceries. I don't usually enjoy spending a whole day of the weekend shopping, but it was nice going somewhere different, and I'll certainly go back to Letchworth before Christmas. Nice cheap parking too, and no traffic problems, unlike the pure h3ll of Cambridge!
  • Twiglet- you mentioned cheap parking. Next time you go park in Morrisons (in the town centre). You pay £1 but get it back in store if you spend £1 or more and you get 3 hours there

Wilko's is really good for home bargains - particuarly duvet covers and kitchen wear. Poundstretcher is hit and miss, i guess it depends if you need to bulk buy or whether you like your certain products. I found a new site called xxxxxx who have a 10% off code atm ([FONT=&quot]xxxxx) which i used this morning for some bedside lamps. There's loads of tesco codes on another thread which are pretty good too if you're doing your weekly shop.
